Tesla vehicles continuously monitor the health and safety of their high-voltage battery packs through the Battery Management System (BMS). When the BMS detects a serious internal issue, it generates fault codes designed to protect both the vehicle and its occupants.
Recently, we’ve seen an increasing number of Tesla owners attempting to clear or reset BMS fault codes—particularly codes related to battery isolation, internal resistance, voltage imbalance, and battery safety warnings. While this may temporarily remove the warning from the dashboard, it does not repair the underlying problem.
In fact, resetting certain BMS faults can be one of the most dangerous things you can do to a Tesla battery pack.
Many owners assume that if a warning can be cleared, the fault itself has been fixed. Unfortunately, that’s not how Tesla’s battery safety system works.
